Part of the Luminate Education Group, Leeds City College is one of the largest further education institutions in the country with over 20,000 students. It’s also one of the largest providers of apprenticeships in Yorkshire. The college operates from six main sites across Leeds, Keighley and Harrogate: Printworks Campus, Park Lane Campus, University Centre, Quarry Hill Campus, Keighley College and Harrogate College with smaller provisions in communities across the city.
Technology is essential in a remote learning environment. With the COVID-19 threat evolving daily, ensuring students had access to the resources they needed was a real challenge for education - especially with limited department budgets and stock shortages.
In addition to the provision of suitable devices for its students to learn from home - Leeds City College also accelerated its plans to deploy its next generation e-learning platform. This would ensure the college could offer on-demand resources and provide students the closest simulation to a classroom environment possible.
Outside of these challenges - COVID-19 applied further pressure to Schools, Colleges and Universities around the world due to the unforeseen budgets needed for mass supply of devices for students.
Being able to secure the appropriate devices and the right cost was going to be a critical factor – which would be challenging with the lack of stock available in the channel.
An initial request came from the Crescent Purchasing Consortium framework (CPC) for the supply of 400x HP 11A Chromebooks. Due to the competitive pricing put forward by our education team, PTG won the initial request of 400x Chromebooks which our team ordered and delivered at a competitive price to ensure Leeds City College’s students would have access to essential learning resources.
Since the initial order, we have now delivered and deployed 1170x Chromebooks in total over a 2-month period. The relationship between PTG and Leeds City College has gone from strength to strength, and we are now currently in the process of advising on other future projects.
The college experienced serious constraints on Chromebook stock during the Covid-19 pandemic, it was therefore essential we were able to partner with a supplier who could meet demand and more importantly deliver on their commitment. PTG were that supplier. Orders were turned around quickly at very competitive pricing enabling the college to get devices into students’ hands quickly which enabled much needed online learning. Coupled with great customer service we continue our relationship wth PTG going forward.
